Former Development Foundation board member and chairman Fred Slunecka, most recently Chief Operating Officer of Avera Health, has retired after 36 years with the regional health system. As president of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center for 21 years, Slunecka was a key player in the development of the Sioux Falls area during its fastest growth decades.
His connection to economic development in our region has been nearly as strong as his leadership in enhancing health care options. He became an active participant in Forward Sioux Falls, serving many years on the Joint Venture Management Committee and was FSF chair from 1999-2001. Slunecka joined the Development Foundation board of directors in 2007 and served through 2013, chairing the board in 2012. His understanding of regional economic issues and insights on the role of health care in the growth of our economy were well respected and keenly appreciated during his tenure with the Development Foundation.
The board and staff of the Sioux Falls Development Foundation join with Avera Health and the business community in congratulating Fred on his retirement and thanking him for his service to our region.
