Lincoln, Minnehaha, McCook, and Turner counties in southeastern South Dakota. . .locally known as the Sioux Empire.

An average of 45,000 students are enrolled in regional institutions within 150 miles each year, providing a steady stream of well-educated workers. A multitude of workforce training options are also available to meet businesses´ needs.


Our effective and efficient transportation system includes two Interstate highways, Class I rail, convenient air service, and the only Port of Entry and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) in the state. An excellent county highway system and short line rail provide a second tier of connectivity throughout the region. This makes Sioux Falls a transportation hub that connects people with goods from coast to coast and beyond.

Sioux Falls has an extensive, well-developed network of utilities that service businesses and homes in the region. Electric service is reliable and costs are competitive. Water is plentiful and clean, and our recently upgraded water system ensures that the region is prepared for ongoing business and population growth. Our telecommunications infrastructure provides a strong home base for national data, financial, and customer service centers.

The cost of living is better in Sioux Falls, thanks in part to no personal income tax, low real property and sales taxes, affordable housing and utility costs, and a favorable climate. The overall cost of living is 6% lower than the national average.
