Scholarships will build South Dakota's workforce

Imagine the impact of offering technical degrees or certificates to select students at no cost for tuition, fees, books and other required program expenses—a debt free education. That is exactly what BUILD Dakota Scholarships will do for 300 students across the state beginning this fall. Seventy of those scholarships will be offered here in Sioux Falls through Southeast Technical Institute. A $25 million gift from T. Denny Sanford is being matched by state of South Dakota Future Funds over the next five years to make this dream a reality.

Chairman's Report: How we get the boat across the lake

With warmer weather somewhere around the corner, some of us are thinking about the lake and spending those summer days out on the water. That picture also gives us a very effective metaphor for economic development in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We’re all in the same boat and we’re all heading for the same destination of economic prosperity. A lot of people are in this economic development boat, from our Governor to our local development officials and city leaders—and all we have to do to get across the lake is pull on our oars together.
