ALCOM expands from Maine to Sioux Falls


ALCOM, LLC., a Maine-based manufacturer of aluminum trailers, is expanding its operations to Sioux Falls, a move which will create 20 jobs initially and up to 180 jobs in the next three years. The Sioux Falls Development Foundation partnered with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development in working with ALCOM to make the Sioux Falls decision. The state will also provide $90,000 in workforce development money to assist with eligible training costs.

Building a base of well-educated technical employees is a vital strategy for workforce development in the Sioux Falls area—and also the mission of Southeast Technical Institute. That similarity of vision is the genesis of a recently rolled out cooperative marketing campaign, “TechEd Works For Me,” funded by Forward Sioux Falls and local businesses through the STI Foundation.

Regional Update: Wind energy companies energize regional economy


Both Lincoln and Minnehaha Counties have seen major announcements in the past year regarding the location of new wind energy companies in our region. In Brandon, Marmen Energy’s wind tower manufacturing plant has begun operations and is already growing. In southern Lincoln County, a plan to build the state’s largest wind farm took an important step forward with the county planning and zoning board’s approval to place meteorological data towers at selected sites.
