Forward Sioux Falls celebrates 25 years of progress

On March 27, community leaders gathered at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science to celebrate a quarter century of success with the Forward Sioux Falls program. Current chair Mark Shlanta reviewed the history of the economic development and marketing effort since its inception in the late 1980s and led a toast to the far-sighted community leaders who got the ball rolling.

Central States Manufacturing begins operations in Hartford

Central States Manufacturing, an Arkansas-based manufacturer and distributor of metal building products, has begun operations in Hartford. The company constructed a 40,000 square foot manufacturing facility on a 10-acre plot in the new Hartford development park during the winter and opened production lines on February 1. With up to 40 jobs to be created over the next three years, Central States Manufacturing is the largest private employer in Hartford.

Business Launch Boot Camp and Accelerator boost new companies

Planning is now underway for the South Dakota Technology Business Center’s Business Launch Boot Camp, while the application process for the SDTBC’s Accelerator is open through Friday, May 3. Both programs are free and help prepare entrepreneurs for company growth.

Chairman's Report: Legislation gives South Dakota new economic development incentive tools

The sunset of the 10-45B large project refund program and the defeat of Referred Law 14 left South Dakota with the need to create new economic development tools. In response to that need, Republican and Democrat leadership in the South Dakota legislature worked together to formulate a comprehensive economic development package with built-in safeguards to ensure fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability—this year’s SB235.
